About Puvidham

Puvidham Rural Development Trust is a registered organization with focus on “Education for Sustainable Living” offering a humane and child-centered education environment for children, integrating the principles of Sustainable living, minimalism, environment protection, water conservation and soil preservation while implementing effective organic farming techniques, Design and construction of Eco-Buildings, Art, Craft and Green Product Manufacturing.

It was an initiative which began in 1992 and since then has taken strong roots. It is the culmination of a dream, of Meenakshi, an architect who wanted to build a community of people whose passion in farming and education could be translated into local opportunities. The activities have now evolved into Puvidham Farm, Puvidham Learning Centre and Puvidham Development Centre and are run under the umbrella of Puvidham Rural Development Trust.

The Puvidham Learning Centre, currently is a space where individuals and families come to learn the principles of sustainable living and minimalism while experiencing life close to nature and with minimum machinery. They learn Organic farming, Permaculture, Mud construction, healing with herbs and cooking on wood fire. They learn the importance of physical labour in creating resources and preserving creativity, empathy and equality as the basic principles of life. An NIOS learning centre with facilitators who provide holistic education and prepare the children for exams has been running since 2019. Children are exposed to architecture, Organic Farming, Arts, Crafts, Green Product Manufacturing, Peer learning and most importantly empathize with nature, environment.

As a team, puvidham is also involved in inclusive growth of neighboring villages in terms of education and knowledge transfer for forest creation, water conservation, Health and Hygiene.

Today, Puvidham is managed by an inspired family of individuals who are working to change the harsh and arid landscape into a sustainable and resource rich area. These initiatives are guided by well-wishers and Trustees who have had exposure to realities of rural India, its concerns and potential.
